Addiction to gambling causes changes in behaviour similar to those associated with other addictions such as alcohol and substance abuse etc. That behaviour, turning previously law-abiding citizens into potential criminals, pushes people who are driven by the obsession to gamble to find new sources of money to feed their addiction. It becomes a vicious cycle and once they have committed one fraud on a small scale they graduate to multiple frauds where the amount stolen is higher. When addicted gamblers turn to fraud and lose their respectability, jobs, family and assets they start down a slippery slope before hitting rock bottom.
